statutory right
Legislated legal protection
A statutory right is a legal entitlement created by legislation rather than by common law, contract, or constitutional provision.
These rights exist because a statute says they do: Workers have a statutory right to minimum wage.
Unlike rights arising from agreements between parties, statutory rights apply to everyone covered by the law and typically cannot be waived or contracted away.
