startup sequence

System activation steps

A startup sequence is the series of steps a computer or device performs when powering on—loading firmware, checking hardware, initializing the operating system.

The term extends to any ordered series of actions that brings a system online: The reactor's startup sequence takes forty minutes.

Also called boot sequence.
