stand-ups

Mic-holding joke-tellers

Stand-ups are brief, regular meetings where team members report their progress, typically while standing to keep things short.

The format originated in software development but has spread to other workplaces: We do fifteen-minute stand-ups every morning.

The name comes from the practice of literally standing, which discourages lengthy tangents.

Stand-up can also refer to stand-up comedy or comedians who perform it.
