stairhead
Where stairs end
The stairhead is the top of a staircase—the landing or platform where the stairs end on an upper floor.
It's the counterpart to the stairfoot at the bottom: She paused at the stairhead to catch her breath.
The term appears most often in British English and in descriptions of older buildings.
