spring floor
Tumbling performance surface
A spring floor is a gymnastics surface with built-in elasticity, typically constructed with layers of plywood, foam, and springs or spring-like materials beneath a carpet covering.
The bounce helps gymnasts generate height for tumbling passes while cushioning landings: She practiced her back handspring on the spring floor.
Standard competition floors measure 12 meters square.
