spiritual crisis
Dark night within
A spiritual crisis is a period of deep questioning or upheaval in one's beliefs, sense of meaning, or connection to the sacred.
It may involve loss of faith, existential doubt, or feeling abandoned by God or the universe.
Sometimes called a dark night of the soul, a spiritual crisis can precede transformation: The death of her child triggered a spiritual crisis that lasted years.
Distinguished from mental illness, though the two may overlap.
