identity confusion

Who am I?

Identity confusion is uncertainty about who you are—your values, goals, sexuality, or sense of self.

The term appears in psychology to describe a developmental stage, especially in adolescence, when a person struggles to form a coherent identity: The teenager's identity confusion manifested as constantly shifting friend groups and interests.

It can also describe adults experiencing a similar crisis after major life changes.
