Unscheduled legislative meeting
A special session is a legislative meeting called outside the regular schedule, typically by a governor or executive to address urgent matters: The governor called a special session to deal with the budget crisis.
Special sessions usually have a limited agenda, restricted to topics specified in the call.
The term also applies to court proceedings convened outside normal terms.
