spacewalking

Outside the spacecraft

Spacewalking is the activity of moving outside a spacecraft while in orbit, properly called extravehicular activity (EVA).

Astronauts spacewalk to repair equipment, conduct experiments, or construct structures like the International Space Station: The crew spent six hours spacewalking to replace a solar panel.

The term evokes the surreal image of floating untethered in the void.
