sorriness
State of contrition
Sorriness is the quality of being sorry—either feeling regret or being in a pitiful state.
The word can describe genuine remorse: the sorriness in his voice was unmistakable.
More often it describes inadequacy or wretchedness: the sorriness of their accommodations, the general sorriness of the whole situation.
