social media pile-on
Viral public shaming
A social media pile-on is a sudden wave of criticism, mockery, or harassment directed at a person or organization online, typically after something they said or did goes viral for the wrong reasons.
The pile-on involves many users joining in rapid succession, often amplifying outrage beyond what the original offense might warrant: She made one poorly worded tweet and faced a massive pile-on.
The phenomenon reflects how social media can mobilize collective anger quickly, sometimes with lasting consequences for the target's reputation or mental health.
