slotter
Machine makes channels
A slotter is a machine tool that cuts vertical slots, keyways, or grooves in metal workpieces—essentially a vertical shaper.
The cutting tool moves up and down while the workpiece is held stationary or fed horizontally.
Slotters are used in metalworking shops for internal machining that horizontal shapers can't reach.
The term also applies to someone who operates such a machine.
