slam dunk contest
Above-rim acrobatics competition
A slam dunk contest is a basketball competition where players take turns performing creative dunks, judged on style, athleticism, and showmanship rather than game play.
The NBA's annual All-Star Weekend version is the most famous: Vince Carter's 2000 slam dunk contest is considered the greatest ever.
The format has spread to other leagues and levels of play.
