single-malt
One-distillery Scottish spirit
Single-malt describes whisky made entirely from malted barley at a single distillery.
The term distinguishes these whiskies from blends, which combine products from multiple distilleries.
Single-malt is most associated with Scotch whisky, though other countries produce single-malts: a twelve-year single-malt from Islay, Japanese single-malt has gained international acclaim.
