simple fractures
Closed bone breaks
Simple fractures are bone breaks where the skin remains intact—the bone doesn't pierce through to the outside.
The term distinguishes these from compound fractures, where broken bone protrudes through the skin, creating infection risk.
Also called closed fractures.
