shoe lasts
Footwear shaping blocks
Shoe lasts are foot-shaped forms around which shoes are constructed.
Shoemakers stretch leather or other materials over the last to give the shoe its shape, then remove it when the shoe is finished.
Different lasts produce different fits and styles—a pointed last yields a narrow toe, a rounded last a roomier one.
The quality of a shoe depends heavily on the last it was built around.
