sense-data

Uninterpreted sensory input

Sense-data are the raw impressions received through the senses—colors, sounds, textures, tastes, smells—considered as distinct from the external objects that produce them.

The term belongs to philosophy of perception, where it addresses the gap between what we directly experience and what exists in the world: Do sense-data accurately represent reality, or only our minds' construction of it?
