noumena

Reality beyond perception

Noumena is the plural of noumenon, a philosophical term for things as they exist in themselves, independent of how we perceive them.

In Kant's philosophy, noumena contrast with phenomena—what we actually experience through our senses.

The noumenal world is unknowable directly; we can only access reality as filtered through human perception.

We perceive phenomena, but noumena remain forever beyond our grasp.
