semi-hollow
Not completely solid
Semi-hollow describes something partially but not completely hollow inside.
The term appears most often with guitars, where a semi-hollow body has a solid center block running through an otherwise hollow chamber: a semi-hollow electric guitar.
This construction offers a middle ground between the warm resonance of hollow bodies and the feedback resistance of solid bodies.
