sectary

Breakaway faith follower

A sectary is a member of a sect, particularly a religious one that has broken from an established church.

The word carries undertones of narrow-minded devotion to a splinter group's doctrines: The sectaries refused to compromise on points of worship.

Now rare, it appears mainly in historical or theological writing.
