secretory pathway
Cellular shipping route
The secretory pathway is the cellular route by which proteins are synthesized, modified, and transported to destinations outside the cell or to the cell membrane.
It begins at the endoplasmic reticulum, where proteins are made and folded, then proceeds through the Golgi apparatus for further processing before cargo is packaged into vesicles for delivery.
This pathway handles everything from hormones and digestive enzymes to antibodies and neurotransmitters.
