screwjack
Threaded lifting device
A screwjack is a lifting device that uses a threaded screw mechanism to raise heavy loads—cars, houses, or machinery.
Turning the screw converts rotational motion into vertical force, allowing one person to lift enormous weight incrementally.
Also called a jackscrew.
We used a screwjack to level the sagging porch.
