scorch mark
Burn's visible trace
A scorch mark is a discoloration left on a surface by heat or fire—typically brown or black.
Fabric touched by a too-hot iron, wood near a flame, or walls after a fire all show scorch marks.
The term often appears in fire investigations: Scorch marks on the floor suggested the blaze started near the outlet.
