A savarin is a ring-shaped cake made from yeast dough, soaked in rum or kirsch syrup after baking.
The shape comes from the ring mold it's baked in, which leaves a hollow center often filled with whipped cream or fruit.
Related to the baba, but lighter and always molded in a ring.
