Granular playing surface
A sand court is an outdoor playing surface covered with sand, used for beach volleyball, beach tennis, beach handball, and similar sports.
The term distinguishes these purpose-built recreational areas from natural beach settings: The park added two sand courts last summer.
Also called a sand volleyball court or beach court when the sport is specified.
