saltbox house
Sloped-roof colonial home
A saltbox house is a style of wooden frame house originating in colonial New England, characterized by a long, pitched roof that slopes down to the back, creating an asymmetrical profile.
The front typically has two stories while the rear has one, giving the silhouette its resemblance to the wooden boxes once used to store salt.
The old saltbox house had been in her family since the 1700s.
