saggar
Pottery firing protector
A saggar is a protective container, usually made of fireclay, used in pottery kilns to shield ceramics from direct flame and kiln debris during firing.
The enclosed space creates a controlled atmosphere around the piece: The delicate porcelain was placed in saggars to prevent discoloration.
