safe words
Negotiated stop signals
Safe words are prearranged signals used during sexual activity—especially BDSM—to pause or stop what's happening.
Unlike "no" or "stop," which might be part of roleplay, a safe word is unambiguous: Her safe word was "pineapple".
The traffic-light system uses "red" to stop, "yellow" to slow down.
Outside sexual contexts, safe word sometimes means any agreed-upon code to signal distress or a need to exit a situation.
