rutabagas
Yellow-fleshed root vegetables
Rutabagas are large root vegetables with yellowish flesh, a cross between cabbage and turnip.
Also called swedes, particularly in British English.
They're starchier and milder than turnips, often mashed or added to stews: We roasted rutabagas with butter and brown sugar.
