running lanes
Marked racing paths
Running lanes are the marked parallel strips on a track that keep competitors in designated spaces during a race.
Each lane is typically 1.22 meters wide, numbered from inside to outside.
In sprint events, runners must stay in their assigned lanes throughout; in longer races, they may break toward the inside after the initial curve.
She drew lane four for the final.
