A rugpull is a scam in cryptocurrency or other investments where developers or promoters suddenly abandon a project and disappear with investors' money—like pulling a rug out from under someone.
The term emerged from decentralized finance, where creators might hype a token, attract buyers, then drain the liquidity pool: The whole project was a rugpull; they vanished overnight with millions.
Extended to any situation where promised support or resources are abruptly withdrawn.
