rubber band airplane
Wound-up flyer
A rubber band airplane is a small model aircraft powered by a twisted rubber band.
The band attaches to a propeller; winding it stores potential energy that releases as the propeller spins, generating thrust.
These toys teach basic principles of aerodynamics and energy storage: We spent the afternoon building rubber band airplanes and seeing whose could fly the farthest.
