royal favorites
Monarch's preferred people
Royal favorites are individuals who enjoy special favor, influence, or intimacy with a monarch.
Throughout history, favorites have wielded considerable power through their personal access to rulers, often provoking resentment from nobles and courtiers who saw them as upstarts or manipulators: The duke rose from obscurity to become the king's royal favorite.
The term often carries implications of scandal, suggesting the relationship may be romantic or sexual.
