roguing
Weeding out defectives
Roguing is the agricultural practice of removing unwanted plants from a crop—diseased specimens, off-types, or weeds that would contaminate the harvest or spread problems to healthy plants.
A farmer rogues a field by walking through and pulling or cutting undesirable plants: We spent the morning roguing the potato field.
The term applies especially to seed production, where genetic purity matters.
