roentgens
X-ray dose measures
Roentgens are units measuring exposure to ionizing radiation, specifically X-rays and gamma rays.
Named after Wilhelm Röntgen, who discovered X-rays, the unit quantifies the radiation's ability to ionize air.
Though largely replaced by the SI unit coulomb per kilogram in scientific contexts, roentgens remain common in discussions of radiation safety and nuclear incidents: The reactor released several hundred roentgens per hour.
