roadmenders
Highway repair crew
Roadmenders are workers who repair and maintain roads, filling potholes, patching surfaces, and fixing damage from weather and traffic.
The term is primarily British; Americans more often say road crew or road workers.
The roadmenders had blocked off one lane while they patched the asphalt.
