roadcraft
Skilled driving technique
Roadcraft is the skill of driving or riding safely and efficiently on public roads.
The term encompasses hazard awareness, positioning, speed management, and anticipating other road users' behavior.
Originally associated with police driver training in Britain, it now applies broadly to advanced driving technique: The instructor emphasized roadcraft over raw speed.
Good roadcraft means reading the road ahead.
