road dog

Loyal touring partner

Road dog is slang for a close companion, especially one who travels with you or has been through hard times alongside you.

The term originated in hobo and prison culture, where a road dog was someone you could trust on the road or in lockup.

Now it's used more broadly for any loyal friend: That's my road dog—we've been tight since high school.
