ridden shotgun
Occupied passenger seat
Ridden shotgun is the past participle of ride shotgun, meaning to have occupied the front passenger seat of a vehicle: I've ridden shotgun on every road trip we've taken.
The expression comes from the armed guard who sat beside stagecoach drivers in the Old West.
It can also mean to have watched over or guarded someone or something.
