rhubarb leaves
Poisonous stalk companions
Rhubarb leaves are the broad, flat parts of the rhubarb plant attached to the edible stalks.
Unlike the tart red or green stalks used in pies and jams, the leaves contain high concentrations of oxalic acid and are toxic if eaten: Always trim the leaves before cooking rhubarb.
They're sometimes used as a natural pesticide or compost material.
