rheum
Watery nasal discharge
Rheum is the watery discharge that collects at the corners of the eyes or crusts over during sleep—what children call "sleep" or "eye boogers." The word extends to similar discharges from the nose or mouth.
Rheum appears most often in literary or medical contexts: rheumy eyes, the old man wiped the rheum from his face.
