Reverse spin is rotation applied to a ball that opposes its direction of travel, causing it to slow, stop, or roll backward upon landing.
In pool and billiards, it's called draw or backspin; in tennis, slice.
The technique gives players control over where the ball comes to rest: She put reverse spin on the cue ball to avoid scratching.
