reserve units
Part-time military personnel
Reserve units are military formations composed of civilians who train part-time and can be called to active duty when needed.
Unlike full-time soldiers, reservists maintain civilian careers while remaining available for deployment during emergencies or to supplement regular forces: Several reserve units were activated for the overseas deployment.
The term also applies to police or other organizations with similar backup structures.
