reserve officer
Civilian military member
A reserve officer is a military officer who serves part-time rather than on active duty, typically training periodically while maintaining civilian employment.
Reserve officers can be called to active service during emergencies or wartime: Several reserve officers in our unit were activated for the deployment.
The term also applies to auxiliary law enforcement officers who serve voluntarily alongside regular police.
