religious extremism
Militant faith ideology
Religious extremism is the pursuit of religious goals through radical, uncompromising means—often involving violence, intolerance, or rejection of secular society.
Extremists typically interpret sacred texts literally and believe their faith justifies or demands actions that mainstream believers would reject: The bombing was attributed to religious extremism.
The term applies across faiths and is often distinguished from ordinary devoutness by its willingness to harm others or impose belief by force.
