regional languages
Area-specific speech forms
Regional languages are languages spoken in a particular geographic area rather than throughout an entire country or across national borders.
The term often distinguishes local or minority languages from a nation's dominant or official language: Catalan is a regional language of Spain, Welsh is a regional language in the United Kingdom.
Regional languages may have official recognition within their territories or exist without formal status.
