red notice

Global arrest request

A red notice is an international alert issued by Interpol requesting that law enforcement worldwide locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition.

It's not an arrest warrant itself but a request to detain someone wanted for serious crimes in another country: He fled the country but was caught in Spain after Interpol issued a red notice.

The term comes from the document's red border.
