recriminalization
Making illegal again
Recriminalization is the process of making something illegal again after a period of decriminalization or legalization.
The term appears most often in debates about drug policy, sex work, or other activities whose legal status shifts with political climate: Advocates warned that recriminalization of marijuana would overwhelm the courts.
