rebop

Fast improvisational music

Rebop is an earlier name for bebop, the style of jazz that emerged in the 1940s characterized by fast tempos, complex harmonies, and virtuosic improvisation.

The term appears in some song titles and older references but was largely displaced by bebop.

Both words are probably imitative of the music's rhythmic vocal sounds.
