radio blackouts
Transmission dead zones
Radio blackouts are periods when radio communication becomes impossible or severely degraded, typically caused by solar flares disrupting Earth's ionosphere or by spacecraft losing contact during atmospheric reentry.
The term also describes deliberate suppression of radio signals, as during military operations or media restrictions: The government imposed a radio blackout during the crisis.
